My sweet Noah broke his arm AGAIN!
He and daddy went out to play after dinner. I was giving Elli a bath. They weren't outside 2 minutes when they came back inside. Brandon carrying Noah. Noah screaming. Brandon told me he'd broken his arm. It wasn't "might have" broken his arm he KNEW he had. He was just climbing the ladder on his swing set and fell off.
This is Noah on Saturday morning on our way to the Jelly Bean Jump at church, PRE-broken arm. He hasn't smiled much since then. (This is the shirt they had to cut off of him :( Even in his medicated, pain ridden state, he was checking to make sure I'd gotten his shirt, shoes and socks as we were leaving the ER).

Thankfully my parents came to stay with sister so we could both be in the ER with him. We were
so blessed to get a great compassionate doctor and have another from our church who was also on duty. We quickly learned this was no ordinary break. He had broken the humerus bone (the bone above the elbow) and his elbow was out of place. They informed us they were going to send us on to the hospital in Tulsa to do surgery! Gulp. With anesthesia and everything? I hated the thought of that.
It seemed like FOREVER until the ambulance arrived. (We had to go by ambulance since they had given him medication). I rode with Noah and Brandon got our overnight bags and met us at the hospital. It was so pitiful seeing my little boy strapped in to an ambulance gurney. He looked so tiny. No lights or sirens, but Noah asked why they were going so fast. I think the meds (and the fact that he was lying down) were messing with him. We were going the speed limit or slower.
We met with the doctor and he decided not to do surgery immediately, but wait until first thing Sunday morning. We had a rough night. Noah was in so much pain that he didn't sleep, therefore we didn't sleep (not that hospital beds and skinny chair hide-a-beds are conducive for sleep anyway).

They came to get him for surgery, we walked along his bedside as they rolled him down the hall in to the elevator and down to the 3rd floor. Surgery was short and sweet. Praise the Lord. When they got in the OR, they discovered it was a clean break and didn't even have to make an incision, another praise! They set it and put pins in it all using x-ray. Afterward he slept a lot and was in quite a bit of pain.

While he rested, they came by and told us there would be a pediatric therapy (paralyzed) kangaroo on our floor of the hospital visiting the kids. We questioned, "a person in a kangaroo costume?" and they told us a real kangaroo,
Irwin. We told Noah, he didn't seem to care or probably thought he was having another crazy dream.

We had to see for ourselves. Much relieved after surgery and laughing at the cute kangaroo strolling the halls of the hospital.

Thankfully, we were able to go home Sunday evening. Since then, he's just been resting and alternating between watching Wall E and How It's Made.

He hasn't been quite as resilient as
last time. This time, he knows what's going on and isn't quite as tolerant of his cast. He's mad and frustrated and itchy! Of course, it's a more serious, more painful deal this go 'round.

Brandon is questioning the "manly" sling they gave him. You go through something like that and get colorful teddy bears with balloons?!
If you think of it, you might pray for Noah, complete healing and relief from pain.
Poor, sweet Noah!! I am so sorry to hear about this. We will definitely pray for swift healing!!
ReplyDeleteOh Sad, Heather! I bet that was torture for YOU and Brandon! We will pray too! How long does he have to be in his cast?
