He chewed a chunk right out of his paci last Friday. On Saturday, he couldn't fall asleep for his nap because he was so frustrated with the paci (he only takes the paci at nap and bedtime). However, that night when we put him to bed, we just explained that paci had a hole in it, it was yucky, he couldn't use it anymore, and we showed it to him. He seemed to be ok with it.
He has only asked for it a couple times since then and we just remind him what happened to paci and he understands. I'm so thankful it was this "easy" because, oh, how I've dreaded this weaning process.
We were so determined not to give Noah a paci when he was a newborn because deep down I think I was afraid of the weaning process. I didn't even let the nurses give him one in the hospital. I think we made it two nights at home by ourselves and I can remember telling Brandon in the middle of the night, "I'm going to boil the pacis." And that was that. He has loved his paci ever since.
Here he is enjoying some paci time at five months old:Part of me is kind of sad this "season" has come to an end. But for the most part I'm relieved that weaning is O-V-E-R!
Bye, bye, paci.
