Strange Days

In between Noah's fever from teething and fracturing his arm, my parents had an...interesting visit. Probably not exactly what they were hoping for. Noah was certainly in rare form.

We did get to have a fun outing while they were here. We ate at Chuy's (again). We went together when we went to a football game in Austin so they knew it was good food. On our way back, we stopped to take pictures with these "plant-creatures". For a hefty pricetag, you too can take one home to display in your front yard! :) Pappaw found a golfer.
Brandon and Noah are stretching their necks out like a giraffe. We also went to see the Water Wall. This half circle wall of water is 64 feet tall and drops thousands of gallons of water every minute! Very impressive!

Here's Brandon getting a kiss from Noah at the Water Wall.Brandon and I at the Water Wall.

Pitiful

My baby fractured his arm! I guess we've been letting Noah watch too many Olympics. We think he tried a "one and a half" off the side of his crib and ended up with a fractured forearm right above his wrist! We put him in his crib for an early Sunday afternoon nap. He was upset and didn't want to be in there. We were all in the living room and pretty soon he came walking around the corner! My dad said my jaw hit the ground. Noah has never even tried to get out of his crib before! He had a rugburn on his head so we were more worried about his head. He couldn't tell us his arm hurt and we couldn't tell so he went down for his nap and slept for almost 3 hours. When he got up, he was holding his arm and saying, "owww". Poor baby! He put a little pressure on it to try to stand up and immediately started crying.

That's when we knew we definitely needed to take him to the Urgent Care Center. He had to get x-rays which was traumatic to say the least. He didn't understand why we were holding him down on this metal "bed" with a giant machine shining a light down on him. Then, to make it worse, the tech's computer "ate the images" so we had to do it AGAIN!! It was not a fun experience. My parents are in town and were in the waiting room, they could hear him crying down the hall.

He was in good spirits once we got home. He kept saying "opi, opi" (he wanted us to open the cast), he even tried biting it off! The sling was another annoyance, it slid all over the place. We just kept saying, he looks so pitiful. Brandon and I have never even broken a bone (knock on wood!) so we felt terrible for our baby having to go through this.We had an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Monday afternoon so he could get a real cast. Apparently the Urgent Care's x-rays weren't sufficient and we had to do the process all over again! Ugh! The orthopedic doctors were very good though. Here's Noah getting his cast:

We chose blue, of course. Here's Noah modeling his new boo cast. He can tolerate it much better than the temporary cast with sling! Pray for quick healing for this busy boy! We have an appointment for the third week in September. Hopefully he'll get the cast off then and he'll be able to go swimming a couple more times before the pools close!

Frijoles Delicioso!

My child ate beans!! It's a miracle!

We went to Chuy's on Saturday night, they no sooner got the chips on the table and Noah shouted, "Oh boyyyyy!" and proceeded to down half the basket. That was no surprise. What did come as a surprise was him lunging across the table to get to our rice. He was eating it by the handful and loving it!

Sunday we went to brunch with our Sunday School class. We ate at a Latin buffet and once again, the child surprises us by eating black beans! And A LOT of them! Hallelujah! Is he finally branching out and trying new foods? Let's hope so.
Mmmmmm, black beans!

Gold, Silver, or Bronze?

My husband has been addicted to the Olympics this go 'round. He'll even set the DVR to record the events he has to miss. His favorite is watching Phelps kick butt in swimming, Noah's favorite is synchronized diving. I was at a church event the other night, the boys were at home and Noah was giving Brandon the sign for more, he wanted to watch it over and over.

Here's Noah showing off his best Olympic move.

Batten Down the Hatches!

We were so prepared for Tropical Storm Edouard and he was a dud, in our neck of the woods anyway. We thought we were going to "get" to ride out a tropical storm (we thought we could handle a T.S. or at least a CAT 1 Hurricane). Not that I'm complaining, I am definitely not wishing for hurricanes! It's just that the weather people get SOOO excited ("bread and water are flying off the store shelves!!!") that I was getting excited. They were on the air for 8 hours straight (4 a.m. until noon) on Tuesday with not much to report.

When we saw that Jim Cantore hadn't even left the Weather Channel studios in Atlanta, we knew we were safe.

Brandon got to stay home from work and the entire city was shut down (with the exception of our neighbor's lawn crew who apparently mow the soaked grass despite the threat of hurricanes and tornadoes).

I woke up that morning expecting to see our neighbor's palm trees whipping in the wind and rain pouring off the house. It was calm and barely sprinkling. The winds go sweeping down the plains MUCH faster in Oklahoma than they did during T.S. Edouard. I think we ended up getting about an inch of rain out of the deal.
